Second European Commission Webinar Explores the Joint European Degree Label Application Process
September 28, 2026

The European Commission has organised the second webinar in its series dedicated to the Joint European Degree Label, this time focusing on how higher education institutions can apply for it. Representatives of the FOREU4ALL community were among the speakers, joining a wide audience of nearly 500 representatives of higher education institutions and quality assurance professionals from across Europe interested in preparing their own applications.
The session opened with the latest policy update from the European Commission on the Joint European Degree Label, situating the application process within the broader European quality assurance and recognition framework. One of the authors of the Operational guide for the Joint European Degree Label then walked participants through the practical steps of applying, explaining how to prepare a self-assessment report, what evidence to gather, and what assessors look for when reviewing an application against the label's criteria, including the "jointness" of the programme, the student experience, and its European dimension.
To close, the webinar turned to lived experience: representatives from the first two joint programmes that have been awarded the label in July 2026 shared how the process worked in practice. Meritxell Chaves, Secretary General of CHARM-EU at the University of Barcelona and leader of the FOREU4ALL Work Package on Communication & Dissemination, spoke about her alliance's journey to the label, while Fernando Galan representing EU-CONEXUS presented the experience of the Joint Master in Marine Biotechnology. Both programmes were assessed by AQU Catalunya in cooperation with UNIBASQ. Together, the two cases gave participants a concrete sense of what applying for the label involves, from the first steps of self-assessment through to the external review.
