Future4Alliances kicks off in Paris

May 2025

The first meeting of this new EU-funded project on national & regional support for alliances was celebrated last Friday. Coordinated by Campus France, the initiative brings together 32 partners and associated partners from 13 European countries.

Opening remarks were delivered by Donatienne Hissard and Manuel Bouard, who highlighted the progress made in the European Higher Education Area by European University Alliances.

A key topic of discussion was the Council of the European Union's recent recommendation on a future European Degree, cornerstone of the Union of Skills.

Furthermore, a panel of member states representatives from Spain, Austria, Italy, and France provided national insights into the development and support of alliances at home. Partners discussed how alliances can:

  • Boost Europe’s global attractiveness
  • Promote EU values
  • Foster dialogue and exchange of best practices, one of the main goals of FOREU4ALL
  • And help enhance hosting policies for international students and staff, particularly on legal frameworks, housing, services, and inclusion

Representing the Université de Poitiers, EC2U Alliance and FOREU4ALL, Prof. Dr. Ludovic THILLY introduced the work of the Community of Practice and called for strong synergies between Future4Alliances and FOREU4ALL, particularly on sustainable, long-term funding for alliances.
